Christmas Letter 2011

December 17th, 2011

To all our Wonderful Family and Friends,

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! This has been an incredible year for us, mostly consumed by the anticipation and birth of our son, Samuel! He was born on October 25 (13 days late!) at 9:44pm and weighed 8lbs 9.5oz.We also got to celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary with a trip to Inverness, near Point Reyes. We visited the lighthouse at Point Reyes, climbing down and then up the 308 stairs (while Alison was nearly 7 months pregnant! Whew!). The hotel we stayed at was lovely, and we got to meet some very nice people and enjoyed watching several quail mommies and babies.

Throughout the summer we also attended two classes together. The first was a 13-week series by Dave Ramsey called Financial Peace University. It really helped us get our finances in order before Sam showed up by getting us on the same page financially, developing a vocabulary for understanding each other better, and forming better spending habits. We highly recommend the class to anyone!

The other class we took was an 8-week childbirth class for the Bradley Method. Our goal was to have a completely natural birth, and we even rented a tub so that Alison could labor and (hopefully) give birth in the water. Our class was extremely helpful in preparing us, but oddly enough the most useful lessons were the ones that explained the various medical solutions you might need and when, and also the class explaining C-sections in detail. Our doula, Patricia, was also extremely helpful in getting us through labor. Little Samuel did not want to come out! But he got here safely and we’re very thankful. If you want to read more about our preparations for him and his birth you can go to babyg.aqfire.com.

Fortunately we were blessed with a quick and easy recovery for Alison from the surgery, and a healthy and quickly-growing little boy. Many family and friends brought us meals and visited during the first few weeks and we are extremely grateful.. Neither of us had to cook or clean anything for quite a while! As the new year comes we’re looking forward to a few more changes. Nathan got a job as a Linux Administrator at Apple and will be starting January 3rd. Also in January, Alison will begin babysitting our nephew, Logan. He and Sam are going to be great buddies!

We’re looking forward to 2012 and to getting used to all the changes that have come our way. Blessings to you and your families as you also move forward!

Love,
Nathan, Alison and Samuel
